Friend! Hi. Thanks for stopping by. I’d offer a cup of tea or to cook something but you are (most likely) not in the same room as me and that’s not physically possible. So just imagine it…
Mmmmm.
Tea.
Cute. Thanks for that. Anyway, welcome to my substack!
What the hell is a substack?
Honestly, I don’t quite know.
Umm…. what?
I. Don’t Know. But I will be using it as a newsletter. Think of it as a way for me to write cute little notes to you, a person I love. Or at least marginally like. So subscribe pls.
How often will I receive This Spam (Taylor’s Version)?
The plan is to blast these out once a week, usually Sundays or Mondays. Each substack will be different. Maybe I’ll share a page of the novel(s) I’m working on. Or rant about a song I like, or a new series, or the new leaf that grew on my Ficus Audrey.
At the very least, I will link my fun entertainment/travel journalist work from the previous week just so it’s all in a cute little place for ya.
Is it free?
For now!
Yes, that is a threat. Just kidding… unless?
What will you talk about first?
Here’s a poem I wrote for my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day.
I never liked cherries much
Until you
It was like a door opened
Or a window
That I leaned out of to shout for you in the garden
You picked one for me, fresh
Tart, sweet. I chew
around the pit, you
smile expectantly
Waiting for me
To say I love them as much as
I love you
I do
Isn’t that so fucking cute? TELL ME IT’S CUTE, I CRAVE EXTERNAL VALIDATION.
What did you work on this week?
Committing this audio to memory.
I reviewed Of An Age. So much angst and longing and yearning… takes me right back to purgatory to high school. In theaters now!
Olympic Skier Gus Kenworthy is a quitter! Jk, but I did interview him to discuss the real reason he left Special Forces: World's Toughest Test.
Why traveling around Europe should be a gays-only event…
This is Rihanna’s world, and we’re just watching from the sidelines.
And finally, OnlyStans, my messy music podcast, lives again! Eat your heart out Vanessa Williams.
Now let me tell you about the best meal I had this week…
Mama Shelter in Hollywood is known for its rooftop bar but the food is a treat!
My boyfriend and I started the meal, as one does at 6pm on a Friday, with a drink. The Sun Also Sets is surprisingly boozy, which is a must for me when a cocktail costs $18. I had two.
The plates are sharable so bring a friend (at least to split the total with you). The Endive Salad was dripping in goat cheese and walnuts while the Albacore Tostado had my mouth watering as I was eating it, topped with sharp peppers and herbs that cemented it as my bf’s favorite dish. Shoutout to our server, Matthew, for recommending those!
For the main course, we ordered the grilled swordfish, a soft filet smothered in delicious chimichurri, and the highlight of the meal for me: the lamb ribs. They were falling-off-the-bone-tender and smothered in a gochujang glaze that lowkey had me drooling as the Executive Chef Jonathan Kim came by our table to say hi. Delicious, Jonathan, thank you!
Last but not least, dessert. I’m not the biggest fan of sweets so I ordered the milk and cookies before I remembered I’m lactose intolerant. Even though the milk was untouched, those were four of the most delectable cookies I’ve ever tasted. Who gave them the right?
I got so caught up in the meal that I was late to the Drag Race watch party I was hosting at my house and forced my besties to wait outside in the LA chill for 20 minutes as the Uber inched along. It was worth it tbh. If you were standing outside my apartment and you’re reading this now, I’d do it again bitch.
So… what now?
Granted we all stay alive for the next week, you’ll see another one of these substack emails soon!
In the meantime, here are a few things I’m working on but can’t talk about yet teehee.
I had an hour-and-a-half chat with Billy Porter for an upcoming cover story…
